The Life of Sheila Barrett ("Ms. B")
Sheila Barrett, affectionately known by many as Chubby or Ms. B, was born on July 15, 1944, in Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica. She lived a life marked by love, kindness, hospitality, and a deep connection with her family and community.
Sheila was married to Lewin Barrett, better known as Archie (Deceased). Together they built a loving family and were blessed with six children: Michael Dunbar, Lewin (Tony) Barrett, Liesa Barrett (Deceased), Shernett Barrett, Suzette Barrett, and Lincoln (Conrad) Barrett. She was also the proud grandmother of three granddaughters, three grandsons, and three great grandchildren, and one brother, David Bailey, all of whom brought her great joy.
Ms. B was well known and dearly loved throughout her hometown community of Hague, Trelawny. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on her verandah, watching neighbors and friends pass by. It was a familiar and heartwarming scene to hear people call out to her, "Good morning, Ms. B! How are you doing?" With her characteristic warm smile, she would often reply, "I'm just looking at you, the better one." Those simple daily exchanges reflected the genuine love, respect, and affection that existed between her and the people in her community.
Sheila also enjoyed going into the town of Falmouth, especially to the market and her favorite supermarket Mr. Chin. Wherever she went, she was never in a hurry. She loved meeting people, sitting down, chatting, sharing stories, and catching up with friends and acquaintances. Her warm and welcoming personality made it easy for others to enjoy her company.
Another of Sheila's great passions was sewing and listening to music. Whether she was sewing something special, listening to her favorite songs from the 60s and 70s, or just simply relaxing at home, these simple pleasures brought her happiness and contentment.
Sheila was also an exceptional cook. Her meals were prepared with love and enjoyed by all who had the privilege of sitting at her table. Family members and friends eagerly anticipated visiting because they knew Ms. B would prepare one of her delicious home cooked meals. Her cooking became one of the many ways she expressed her love, generosity, and care for those around her.
Although Ms. B has fallen asleep in death, the love she shared, the kindness she showed, and the countless memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
As we reflect on Sheila's life, we find comfort in the hope found in God's Word. At John 5:28, 29, Jesus gave this comforting promise:
"Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”
This resurrection hope gives us confidence that death is not the end. We look forward with faith to the joyful day when we will welcome Sheila back again, healthy and full of life.
Until that beautiful day arrives, may we continue to cherish the precious memories of Sheila Barrett, our beloved Ms. B. Her love, kindness, laughter, warm hospitality, and gentle spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend services at The Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston, Saturday July 18, from 3:00-5:00p.m.
Lovingly remembered, deeply missed, and forever cherished.
