Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday 3-8 pm. Donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Charity of One’s Choice.
Obituary
Mr. Mather died Wednesday morning after a brief illness. He was born in Brockton, a son of the late Habib and Zahia (Borack) Mather and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1937, where he played baseball and was inducted into Brockton High School Hall of Fame for pitching. He was the owner and operator of Mather Oil Company in Brockton until his retirement. Mr. Mather was a member of Knights of Columbus Seville Council, Lebanon American Club, French Club and the 240 Club of Duxbury. He had coached little league, pony league and American Legion Ball, in his younger years he played baseball for the Taunton Lumber, Old Colony League and Whitman Town Team. He bowled for many years with the Knights of Columbus and Senior Citizens Leagues and was an avid golfer and member of DW Field Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen M. (O’Brien) Mather, his children, Maryellen Mather of Brockton; Peggie Crowley of Marshfield; Michael F. Mather of S. Carolina; Jeanne Cosgrove and Laura Mather both of Brockton, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Brother of the late George, James, Frank, Henry “Didi” and William Mather, Della Mahanor, Louise Christenson and Josephine McGarry
