Thomas William Holt, age 89, of Mason’s Island Road, Mystic, died early Monday morning at Mystic Manor Rehabilitation and Convalescent Center where he had been a resident for the past year.
A life-long resident of Mystic, Tom was born in New London on July 4, 1913 the son of Thomas Merrill Holt and Grace E. Beauchamp Holt.
A well respected Mystic businessman, Tom with his wife and son, owned and operated Broadway Sunoco for 39 years before his retirement in 1989. Known for his keen sense of humor, customers enjoyed his expert daily weather forecast.
He was a longtime member of the Mystic Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Charity & Relief Chapter Mason Lodge of mystic, and served as Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows. In his earlier years, Tom enjoyed boating and horses.
He was married to Renee (PraLevis) Holt in Mystic on December 14, 1935.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Holt is survived by his son, Brian T. Holt of Old Mystic, a grandaughter, Heidi Holt of Gales Ferry, four brothers, Russell and Clarence Holt, both of Pawcatuck, Robert Holt of Mystic, and Edward Holt of Florida, a sister, Helen Forrest of California, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rose E. “Tootie” LeBlanc who died July 23rd, Marion Geyer, Gladys Burdick, Fannie Holt, and Charles and Alfred Holt.
Tom’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm. A Private Service will be conducted on Wednesday. The Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Carpenter will officiate, assisted by Rev. Merle E. Spring and Rev. Lisabeth M. Gustafson. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
In grateful recognition of the wonderful care given to Tom at Mystic Manor, the family requests memorial donations in Tom’s memory be made to the Patient Recreation Fund, Mystic Manor, 475 High Street, Mystic 06355
