Madelyn “Maddy” Emelia Kazakis, a woman deeply devoted to her faith and family,
passed away peacefully after years of declining health on June 23, 2026, surrounded by
her family, at the age of 92.
Born on October 27, 1933 in Manchester, NH, she was the beloved daughter of the late
Russell and Eva Gage. The oldest of seven, as a young girl, she cared for other
children so often that her grandmother called her “Little Mother,” a nickname that could
not have been more apropos to her life.
Maddy graduated from Manchester High School Central in 1951. Shortly after, she met
the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Kazakis, while the two of them were working at the
Carpenter Hotel, she as an elevator operator and he as a bellhop. After that first snuck
smooch on the elevator, the two were smitten and married in 1954. They spent 44
years of love and devotion until his passing in 1998.
An incredibly hard-worker, Maddy worked 40+ years as a medical transcriptionist for
several highly regarded Manchester area doctors, including the medical group of Drs.
Boynton, Thomas and Friedman and orthopedist, the late Dr. Thomas Moser. Knowing how
much she loved children, Dr. Moser always lightened the tediousness of her job by
singing to her with his daughters while he dictated. Maddy knew and could spell
medical conditions like no one else and her typing speed and accuracy were amazing!
After she retired, she became a Justice of the Peace and presided over numerous
marriages. During that time, she also was an active member of both the Daughters of
the American Revolution and the Manchester Women’s Club.
Her most cherished memories included family gatherings, going out dancing and
travelling with Jimmy, going to her grandchildren's activities and short trips to the beach
with her best friends, Elda, Violet and Nancy.
Nothing was more important to Maddy, though, than her faith and her family. A
dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, Maddy served the
church in just about every role but Sunday School teacher was her favorite. In addition
to that, she was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years.
Her family was her world and she and Jimmy raised five children, Daniel (Christine),
Kathy Felch (David), Steven (Audrey), Christine Leclerc (Michael), and Cynthia
Bilodeau (Marc). Their greatest pride was the friendship and love that their children
have with each other. They continue to cherish and relish time spent together. This
includes her 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with one on the way. She is
also lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Maddy had many struggles throughout her life, but she always faced them with humility
and grace, as she did everything, helping others along the way. She will be
remembered for her steadfast devotion, empathy, kindness, generosity, patience, sense
of humor and warmth. Her life was a testament of deep faith, quiet strength and
unwavering love.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her grandson, James II, sisters,
Joan, Cynthia Rheaume, Lynn Gagne and Louisa Demers. She is survived by her
sisters, Susan Miller and Monette Lamontagne, and her brother, Ernest Gage.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hillsborough County Nursing Home
for her loving care over the past five years.
