Peter V. Amato, age 85, a longtime resident of Woburn formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully June 24, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. (Arigo) Amato. Born in Boston he was the son of the late Vincent and Jenny (Savoia) Amato.
Peter was raised and educated in Somerville and attended the Somerville Trade School. A true car enthusiast, Peter worked for nearly thirty years as the Manager of the autobody shop of the former Davidson Chevrolet in Medford and then Malden prior to his retirement. Peter loved working on cars, problem solving and fixing them to sell. He was a true DIY handyman and was always working on different projects around the house. He will fondly be remembered for his devotion to his family and his amazing work ethic. He will be greatly missed.
Peter is survived by his sons, Peter Amato, Sr. and his wife Teresa of Wilmington, and Stephen Amato and his wife Darlene M. of Woburn. He was the loving grandfather of Melissa Amato of Wilmington, Peter Amato, Jr. of Nashua, NH, Nicholas Amato of Sunnyvale, CA, and Ryan Amato of Waltham. Cherished brother of Vincent Amato and his wife RoseAnn of Billerica, the late Camille Amato, Josephine Amato, and Marie "Honey" Berini. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, June 29th, at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 28th, from 2 to 5 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Peter's memory to the Alzheimer's Association,320 Nevada St, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460.
