Teddy was the second oldest and a favorite in our family as he was not only a great guy who would give you the shirt off his back, but was also the family comedian. He kept us all in stitches with his many jokes and gags. In the hospital the weekend before he died he declared that he wanted to donate his body to science fiction.
Everyone, including cousins and friends, has “Teddy stories”. He also had a very special bond with his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, as he loved spending time with each of them.
When he was a teenager Teddy enjoyed playing the drums, and was quite good. He was also an excellent fisherman always returning with a great catch for dinner. Being fun and handsome made him popular with the girls.
He graduated in 1971 from St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire. After college he took a cross country trip with his brother Paul and their friend Fr. Bob Manning which was a wonderful memory for him. He also took trips to Octoberfest in Germany and to Alaska. Teddy then went on to work in the family business, Hanlon Shoes, for the next 35 years.
Teddy was a wonderful brother, so generous and caring. Whatever he had he usually gave away. In his older years he sometimes wrote poetry which surprised us all. Teddy loved nature so much. He actually appreciated food even more. You’ve never heard anyone describe a good burger or even a bowl of soup like he did. He was known to love a good glass of wine (or two?) as well. A lifelong lover of all kinds of music, he was current with the younger generation’s hip-hop and loved it!
We will all miss our wonderful brother and uncle. Most of all we will miss his beautiful heart and great sense of humor. He left us with so many special memories and funny stories.
Our family would like to thank all his cousins and friends who loved him. A special thanks to Keith Mulcahy, his best friend, who enjoyed watching sports as much as Teddy. He was always there for our brother and we all appreciated that so much.
Teddy Bear you are in all of our hearts forever. Thank you for making us laugh ‘til it hurt. You were such a bright light in our lives and we will never be the same without you.
