Joseph J. DeMello, Jr., 72, of Westport, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Donna E. (Broadbent) DeMello, they shared 52 years of marriage.
Mr. DeMello was born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph J. and Lillian (Green) DeMello and had resided in Westport for over 30 years. Prior to retirement, he worked at Westport Bait and Tackle. An animal lover at heart, he enjoyed the many Beagles he had over the years, his horse and favorite sidekick, his dog Abby. He will be remembered for being a jokester and for his love of cooking.
Survivors along with his wife include his brother: James DeMello of New Bedford; his sister-in-law: Judy Taylor and her husband Bill of NC; along with nieces and nephews.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Potter Funeral Home at 6:30 P.M.
Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, July 1st from 4-6:30 P.M. prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
