WORCESTER____Joseph G. Salkaus, Sr., 89, a longtime Worcester resident died Sunday September 17 in Saint Francis Home, 101 Plantation St.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Nellie (Chuplis) Salkaus, a son, Joseph G. Salkaus, Jr., and his wife Mary of Dennisport; a daughter, Elaine M. Salkaus of Worcester; two brothers, Alphonse Salkaus and Peter Salkaus both of Athol; two grandsons, Joseph Salkaus and John Salkaus and nephews and nieces. Another daughter, Joan T. Salkaus died in 1991. He was born in Athol, a son of Michael and Anna Salkaus and had lived in Worcester for most of his life.
Mr. Salkaus was a machinist for John Bath & Co., and worked there for 30 years before he retired. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Salkaus was a member of St. Casimir Church and its Mens Club, Knights of Lithuania Council 26, the Lithuanian Charitable Society and the Lithuanian War Veterans Organization.
The funeral will be held on Thursday September 21 from DIRSA - MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling period will be held on Thursday September 21 from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home. Members of Knight of Lithuania Council 26 will meet Thursday at 9:20 a.m. during the calling period to conduct their ritual.
