Obituary

Angela Lucia Balliro Winship, lovingly known as Lucy, Lulu, Lu, Lucille, Auntie Lulu, Mom, Grandma, and Nonie, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Boston’s North End, Lulu was the daughter of two proud Italian immigrants: her mother, Angela Lucia Riccardi of Anzano, Italy, and her father, Rosario Balliro of Palermo, Sicily. She grew up on Bartlett Place as one of twelve in a close-knit family. Some of her fondest memories were made running through the streets of Boston with her siblings, cousins, and friends, creating the stories she would later share with deep love.

A devoted Catholic, Lulu carried her faith with her throughout her life. She often reminded those she loved, “Just look at the sunset and say there is no God.” Her faith was unwavering and served as a source of strength, comfort, and guidance for her.

In the 1960s, Lulu and her beloved husband, Robert Winship, moved to Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children and built a life centered on family. Together they created a home on Eagle Hill that became the heart of countless family gatherings. Whether it was a holiday celebration, a spontaneous visit, or the highly anticipated annual family beach party, everyone was welcome. Her door was always open. Lulu also found great joy in her birds and daisies.

Lulu touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, wisdom, and unmistakable sense of humor. Her laugh was truly one of a kind - instantly recognizable and impossible to forget. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and important. To know her was to love her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the family she built, the faith she instilled, and the love she shared so freely. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

Lulu was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Winship, her sisters; Josephine, Flora, Mary, Frannie and Rosalie, and her brothers; Joey, Frankie, Rudy, Anthony, Billy and Bruno. She is survived by her children: Mark Winship, Kimberly Rotunno, Robert Winship, and Lance Winship, her eight grandchildren and her nine great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored beyond measure. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 22nd, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Dello Russo funeral home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St Joseph Church, 114 High St., Medford, at 11 AM.
