Obituary

EAST LONGMEADOW - Frances J. (Strobelberger) Anthony, 80, of East Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, June 18, 2026. She passed into Eternal Life at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on November 21, 1945, a beloved daughter of the late Henry F. and Virginia A. (Walsh) Strobelberger. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School where she was the head majorette and had lived in Springfield and Longmeadow before moving to East Longmeadow. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee. She was employed as a teacher for the Agawam Public Schools for 35 years and had taught Latin in high school and Spanish in middle school. She was a communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield where she also was a member of the Women's Guild of the Church, instrumental in the annual Children's Christmas Pageant and the women's guild pasta dinners. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Thomas C. Anthony who was Called Home on January 23, 2013. She leaves her three loving children, Fred C. Anthony and his wife, Terry, of Longmeadow, Rose E. Sinclair and her partner, Robert, of Longmeadow and Alice R. Shimmin and her husband, Bradley, of Longmeadow; her four cherished grandchildren, Thomas Anthony and his wife, Sharon, Laura Murphy and her husband, Brian, Christian Sinclair and his wife, Kimberly, and Andrea Szilagyi and her husband, Anthony; her six cherished great grandchildren, Mila and Riley Anthony, Luca and Londyn Murphy and Wesley and Olivia Szilagyi; her three dear sisters, Nancy McGreal of East Longmeadow, Joan Chmura of Springfield and Margaret Strobelberger and her partner, Margaret Larabee, of Cromwell, CT and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son in law, Mark Sinclair; her cherished grandson, Michael Sinclair; and her dear brother in law, John McGreal. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael Church, 110 Maple Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Legacy Hospice, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106.
