Smithfield’s Speaker Mr. Teddy
May 16, 2017 to June 15, 2026
Teddy, 9, passed on Monday June 15th in the arms of his pawrents, Tommy and Becky (Campopiano) Winfield.
Born on May 16, 2017, at the Goldiva Goldens Kennel in Cumberland, Maine, a boy from the Mystic and Monroe litter. He had moved to Smithfield, RI at 8 weeks old and has resided in Greenville for 9 years.
Early on Teddy studied under Trainer Jenny Dickerson, having passed many AKC exams. Teddy followed his big brother’s lead and worked as a Therapy Dog at the family business, The Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home in Greenville, RI.
Teddy was the alpha male of the Winfield family home, guiding and nurturing his younger brothers, Nicky, and Jack. He loved to pose for the camera, walks on the beach, ice cubes and bananas. Teddy was always up for rides in the truck, he was always first in and first out. One nickname was Little Old Man, just like the elderly, dinner for Teddy was at 4pm. Teddy was always up for a walk and often came home with more energy than he left with. For many years, Teddy was the sidekick of his older brother Buddy. While Buddy received more attention, Teddy was always the faithful protective sidekick.
Fiercely protective of all his brothers, Teddy would give a growl to whomever came to close to his brothers. This even included his sister, Kiwi.
Teddy loved trips back to Maine, which is why one of his nicknames was Maine-e-ack ! He especially loved weekends in Newport, RI. Walking through the busy streets, stopping for pats and head scratches. A great day was a trip around Newport Harbor aboard Sea Newport’s Tabasco. He loved a good beach day but was happiest on Block Island.
A great day for Teddy started with an early breakfast and then hopping in the truck for a trip to Fast Freddies to greet the coffee crowd. The regulars knew the two-handed head scratch was his favorite, and an easy score was getting smooches from the girls at Dunkin. Weekend trips through the drive-thru at the Brewology Café were a favorite. When they ran out of dog treats, he received a slice of cheese. Then home for a mid-morning nap on the back porch.
Besides his pawrents, he leaves his brothers, Nicholas Santino, The Boss of Greenville (Nicky) and BeckyC’s Bringing Back Jack (Jack). He was the brother of the late Miss Becky’s Block Island Buddy (Buddy).
He will travel alone over the Rainbow Bridge, when he gets there, Teddy will be greeted by Willy, Jack 1, Miss Kelsey, and Buddy. We will miss Teddy.
God Bless You Teddy !
In lieu of flowers, please do an act of kindness in memory of Teddy.
