
LIMINGTON- Joseph M. Colby, age 65, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, at the home of his brother, Jeffrey Colby, in Hiram, Maine, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Portland, Maine, on July 9, 1960, to Henry Colby Sr. and Vera Colby. He was the fourth of six children and attended Bonny Eagle High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1979 to 1983.
Joe worked as a mechanic for many years before moving to Virginia, where he started and raised his family. He was formerly married to Nora Colby, with whom he shared and raised five children: Sean Colby his wife Zarah, Dylan Colby, Ajay Colby and his partner Rachel Caskey, Paul Walczak and Heather Burruss her husband Josh and their family.
Joe is survived by his siblings: Henry Colby Jr. and his wife Gloria, Cheryl Colby Ring and her husband Jim, Jeffrey Colby and his wife Rosalie, Steve Colby, and his sister-in-law Ann Colby. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Colby Sr. and Vera Colby; his brother Andrew Colby; and his sister-in-law Kathleen Carroll Colby.
After returning to Maine, Joe continued raising his children and became deeply involved in his community. He loved racing and ran go-karts at the Box Shop Speedway in Kezar Falls. He also served as a coach and president of the Limington Youth League. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a proud member of the American Legion.
For the past seven years, Joe worked in construction alongside his partner, Chad Whitehouse, at W&C Construction. He will be remembered for his hard work, dedication to his family, love of the outdoors, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
Joe will be deeply missed by his children, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 9, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Whiteley Beach, 131 Emery Corner Road, Limerick, Maine.
Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and celebrate Joe’s life.
