Obituary

Gloria (Tareila) Novo, age 78, of Lowell, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away at the Lowell General Hospital Main Campus on Sunday, May 31, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

She was the beloved spouse of Felipe P. Novo, M.D., who predeceased her in 2013.

Gloria was raised in Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury High School. She received her medical technology training at the former St. John’s Hospital in Lowell.

She was the laboratory supervisor at Tewksbury Hospital for many years prior to her retirement.

During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling with “Doc” all over the country especially to Martha’s Vineyard, where she was known for her amazing tour of the island especially to the filming locations of the movie “Jaws”, the famous cliffs of Aquinnah and the Menemsha sunsets.

She was an avid gardener, cook and photographer. Some of her photos were published in the Lowell Sun Newspaper and the Lowell Life Magazine.

Surviving family include, Brenda Willette (Jim), Norma Matley (Frank, Jr.), Philip Tareila (Marilyn), Valorie Willette, April Hanemann, Isabelle Hanneman, Krista Matley, Kaylee Giles, Philip Tareila, Jr., Philip Novo, Kathleen Shea (Bill), Sheila Hegarty (Tim), Richard Novo (Rhonda), Terence Hegarty, Patrick Hegarty, David Novo, Charlotte Hegarty, Raya Hegarty, Emilia Hegarty.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Josephine (Dolly) Linton and George Tareila: her brother, Gerald Tareila: nieces, Melissa Matley and Lisa Willette: step grandson Andrew Shea.

She especially loved her dear friend, Brian Hall, who was devoted to her during her illness.

The family is profoundly grateful to the amazing team of caregivers at Tewksbury Hospital on Unit A-4, who supported Gloria through a difficult illness.

Calling hours are Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, immediately followed by a graveside service at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury.
