Salem
Robert G. Spychalski, 78, of Salem, retired Salem Funeral Director, died Monday, May 18, 2026 at Brentwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, following a long illness. Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Marie A. (Noiseux) Spychalski.
During the Vietnam years he served in Germany with the Army. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Salem State College. He continued his schooling at New England Institute in funeral service while joining his father in the operation of the family funeral business. In the early ‘80’s, he joined Full Memorial to become the Full Spychalski Funeral Home located on Salem Common. Bob was a member of Massachusetts Funeral Directors Assoc. and National Funeral Directors Assoc. During these years he also managed Colonial Carriage Co., a rental agency of professional cars for funerals and special events. Bob retired in 2019
In his free time he was a member of the board of directors of the Brookhouse Home in Salem, Treasurer of the Lions Club, member of the finance committee of St. John the Baptist Parish of Salem and the PLAV also of Salem. Bob’s real passion became apparent when snow began to fall in the North Country. Bob loved his snowmobile and the trails of Colebrook, NH, Rangeley, ME and sometimes even Canada. He enjoyed his many friends and business associates…. . most of his pals thought he had a great sense of humor…most of the time.
Bob is survived by his devoted partner and caretaker Kathleen A. L’Italien
and her two children, Lauren and William Baletsa, his nephews, Louis J. Spychalski, III and wife Sheila, Mark Spychalski and wife Patricia, grand-nephews Louis J., IV and Patrick Spychalski, his cousin Chester Spychalski. Among his many friends, his closest was Stephen Mikulski.
Relatives and friends are invited to his calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [route114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, May 29th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM To be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon in the John Paul II, Shrine of Divine Mercy, 28 St. Peter St., Salem,.
