ALESSI, Paul Francis, passed away unexpectedly May 15, 2026. Paul was loved for his incredible smile, his generosity of spirit, his larger-than-life personality, and his ever-giving hand to help someone. Paul was born and spent his entire life in South Boston, where he enjoyed both watching and playing sports. From little league to M Street softball, to the racquet ball courts at the BAC. Football season was by far his favorite time of year, a die-hard fan who loved to talk shop about the games and players, especially the Pats.
Paul had long careers with the Boston Water and Sewer Commission operating as an expert in leak detection. He then worked as part of the plumbers’ team dedicated to the commuter train wash services at Keolis. And of course, many remember (and enjoyed!) Paul’s famous delicious subs when he owned “The Corner Store” in the 1970’s.
He retired in 2024, so you likely saw him sunning himself on a park bench near the Farragut statue. Or maybe he was power walking around town yet always had time to stop and talk to the many neighbors and friends who loved his company, his conversation, and his readiness for a good laugh.
He was the devoted son to the late Dr. Frank and Margaret Alessi, and the loving brother-in-law to the late Joseph Kinsella.
His favorite role by far was big brother to Donna, Sandra, and David, whom he loved unconditionally. And he loved being Uncle Paulie to his adoring nieces and nephews, Jaylannie, Alexis, Bella, TJ, and Joseph, Jr.
“No man is a failure who has friends.” And Paul was very rich in friendships. He will be deeply missed by so many lifelong friends, cousins, and his brothers at Keolis.
Paul loved family! He delighted in every family gathering on holidays and the many summer barbecues, always the first to arrive. He loved to sing, he loved to laugh, tell stories, and cook. If you were hosting a special celebration, Paul was sure to prepare a tray of baked ziti along with his homemade salad dressings. It was his nature to give.
He remains forever in our hearts and will be missed beyond words. Rest in eternal peace dear brother, son, cousin, uncle, neighbor, and true friend.
Please join us to honor Paul with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 7:00 pm to Midnight upstairs at The Seapoint Bar & Grill, 367 E. 8th St, South Boston, MA 02127.
