Maria C. (Teixeira) Fernandes, age 74, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the Southeast Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in Easton. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao “John” Fernandes, to whom she was wed for Thirty-seven years at the time of his death on March 11, 2008.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on March 17, 1952, she was a loving daughter of the late Augusto and Maria (Oliveira) Teixeira.
Maria grew up and was educated in Portugal. She moved to the United States, where she settled in Norton, met her future husband John and was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton.
Maria’s favorite times were those spent with family, which included Wednesday family dinners. She enjoyed playing dominoes, crocheting and entertaining others, with her beautiful voice, singing in her home in Norton.
She was the devoted mother of David J. Fernandes of Norton, Daniel M. Fernandes and his wife Amanda of Easton and John C. Fernandes and his partner Lauren Kobs of Easton. She was the cherished grandmother of Jesse Fernandes, Avery Fernandes, Nolan Fernandes and Liliana Fernandes.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her graveside funeral service on Friday, May 29th at 10:00 A.M. at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Maria’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1120, Framingham, MA 01701.
