
James Edward Murphy (78) of Hanson died May 18th at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
He was born in Brockton, the son of the late James J. Murphy and Elizabeth L. (Horrigan) Murphy.
Jim was a retired letter carrier for the Town of Holbrook, where he worked for 33 years. He was also a Vietnam veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant.
Jim was a die-hard Boston sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, and had been a season ticket holder since 1986. He enjoyed playing softball, candlepin bowling, and watching the flowers bloom. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as Gramps, Grampa Jim, and Pika.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Patrick Murphy and his wife Cheri, Peter Murphy; his daughter, Kathryn D. (Murphy) DeChane; and was the father of the late Keith Murphy. He is also survived by two brothers, two sisters, assorted neices and nephew, and his most cherished grandchildren, Keith, Jordan, Madison, Julianne, Adam, Kolin, John, and Erin; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in the Home of Funerarias Multi Culturel, 238 Court Street, Brockton, on Thursday, May 28th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, 335 Main Street, Brockton, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Buzzards Bay.
