Obituary

HIRAM- Joanne Field, 79, of Hiram, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love that will continue on through her family. Born on November 6, 1946, to Francis and Leila Coutu, Joanne lived a life devoted to the people she loved most — and she made sure they always knew it.
Joanne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur Field; her parents, Francis and Leila; her son, Frank; and several siblings who surely welcomed her home with open arms. She leaves behind her daughters, Leila and Toni Field, and Ada Dion; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many cherished nieces and nephews; and her siblings Eddie, Thomas, and Russell Coutu, and Terri-Ann Desnoyers.
Joanne enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and had a talent for making a house feel like home. She loved her flower beds and could often be found outside tending to them with pride, usually while keeping an eye on everyone’s coming and going. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, diamond art, sitting in the yard watching people go by, and settling into her favorite classic television shows like Little House on the Prairie and MASH. If there was an old western on TV and a cozy chair nearby, Joanne was exactly where she wanted to be.
She was proud of many things throughout her life, including completing her Hunter Safety Course and ATV Safety Course in 2007 — accomplishments she spoke of proudly. Joanne also valued her time working at the Clipper’s Home for Nursing of the Elders, where her caring heart for others shined.
Christmas was Joanne’s favorite time of year, and she made it magical for everyone around her. No one ever left her home without feeling welcome, fed, and loved — even the unexpected guests who just happened to stop by. She believed there was always room for one more.
Even if she needed help herself, Joanne always took care of others. Among the things she was most proud of were her donations to the local food bank and providing Christmas gifts and blankets for families and neighbors in need. Unasked acts of kindness were simply part of who she was.
Above all else, Joanne loved her family fiercely, a family she loved “three times as much”. She was the kind of woman who showed up, checked in, worried endlessly, fed everyone whether they were hungry or not, and loved with her whole heart. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and her greatest joy.
Those who knew Joanne will remember her warmth, her stubborn streak, her sense of humor. Her love, laughter, and stories will continue to live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her.
Joanne’s burial has been scheduled for July 11, 2026 at 10am at the Riverside Cemetery, with arrangements completed by Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, www.mainefuneral.com
