Obituary

Tri Huu Trinh, age 72, of Medford, MA, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2026.

Tri was born on March 24, 1954 in Saigon, Vietnam to Do Thi Tha and Trinh Van Ngay.

Tri overcame tremendous hardship in pursuit of a better life for himself and his family. After escaping Vietnam during the war and immigrating to America, he worked tirelessly to build a future rooted in opportunity, stability, and hope. Like many of his generation, he made countless sacrifices in pursuit of the American dream and dedicated himself to creating a brighter future for his children and loved ones.

Over the years, he worked long hours at a printing company and later owned and managed Main Street Variety in Medford with his former spouse. No matter how demanding life became, he always did what was needed to support his family. Outside of work, he loved both playing and watching soccer; and there was always a game on the TV in the background. The sound of him enthusiastically shouting “GOOOAAALLL!” after every score became a familiar part of daily life in the home.

Music, however, was his greatest passion and one of the ways he connected most deeply with others. Known throughout the Vietnamese community in Massachusetts as Tri Hai Au, he spent many weekends DJing weddings, fundraisers, dances, and community gatherings. He found joy in creating moments of celebration and connection through music. Whether behind the DJ booth, playing the drums, or bringing his children to band practice, music remained a constant source of happiness throughout his life.

Tri also cherished sharing stories of his childhood and life in Vietnam, helping preserve memories, traditions, and culture for future generations. He will be remembered for his resilience, warmth, humor, generosity, and the way he brought people together.

He is survived by his former spouse, Loan Tran; their children, Mimi, Susan, and Jason; two grandchildren; and many loving siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family in Vietnam.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave. Medford, MA 02155.
