WORCESTER – Elizabeth “Betsy” (Macuga) Welch, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at UMass Memorial after a short illness.
She leaves her beloved daughter, Leah A. Welch of Worcester; a granddaughter, Tatum Elizabeth Welch; 2 sisters, Andrea Ruth Brass of Fort Collins, CO and Anne Jackel and her husband Walter of Webster; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother John Macuga, her sisters Margaret Rohr and Marion Brezniak and her former husband Thomas P. Welch.
She was born on August 20, 1956 and raised in Webster, MA, the youngest child of the late John M. and Theona (St. Andre) Macuga. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1974. She later completed secretarial studies at Bryant College in Smithfield, RI.
Betsy was an executive administrative assistant at Cutler Associates in Worcester for many years, retiring in 2023. She made lasting friendships with many of her co-workers that she still held dear.
She was an avid reader, and was so thrilled that as her daughter got older, she finally enjoyed reading too. She also enjoyed gardening and watching all her tv shows, especially NCIS. Betsy liked going to Webster Lake, Cape Cod, and Misquamicut beach. Above all, her favorite times were spending time with her family, especially her daughter and granddaughter.
Most recently, as Betsy navigated this illness and “new way of living”, she was thankful for all the things she did with her daughter throughout the years and recalled many beautiful memories they shared. These are the memories we will hold onto in the days and weeks to come. I will love you and miss you forever, Mom.
Services will be private. A Mass will be said in her name in August. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
