It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sharyn Anne Riley, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world on May 11, 2026, at the age of 63. Sharyn passed away peacefully at Baystate Medical Center in the presence of her cherished loved ones, after a brief illness. Born on July 29, 1962, in Springfield, MA, Sharyn was the treasured daughter of Francis and Rosemary Riley. Sharyn, who was predeceased by her mother, leaves behind her father, Francis, and her siblings: sister Mary Ellen DeMaio and her husband Ralph, brother Michael and his wife Tina, and brother Timothy and his wife Lisa, all residing in Chicopee. Sharyn shared a particularly close bond with her sister, Mary Ellen, who provided lifelong unwavering support, love, and companionship, especially in Sharyn’s final days. They were best friends and enjoyed going out to restaurants together where they shared lots of laughs over a margarita or two. Sharyn also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her niece, Emma DeMaio of Chicopee and her godson and nephew Anthony DeMaio and his partner James of Ludlow, who provided her with much comfort during the last months of her life. Sharyn was a constant in Emma and Anthony’s lives and they will always remember her kindness and generosity. Sharyn will also be missed dearly by her niece, Kelly Porter and her husband Toby, and her great-nephews, Jack and Will of Londonderry, NH. Kelly and her family shared a special relationship with Sharyn and they will cherish their memories of her forever. Sharyn was known for her generous spirit and selfless nature, always putting others before herself. She had a fondness for Hallmark movies, planting her spring flowers, and the New England Patriots. She also had a profound love of English bulldogs. She loved her three bulldog “children” – Winston, Ruby, and Otis. They brought her endless joy and were cherished members of her family. A dedicated and respected professional, Sharyn devoted over 40 years working for the City of Chicopee, serving most of those years as the City Auditor. Her meticulous nature and commitment to her work earned her the admiration and respect of her colleagues. The family also wishes to thank Sharyn’s friend of more than 55 years, Nancy Keyes, who spent countless hours with Sharyn over these last few months. We are so appreciative of your friendship, kindness, and love for Sharyn. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Funeral will be private.
