Gregory Marc Valiton
June 22,.1953-May 6, 2026
Our Lord Jesus Christ who Greg quietly but passionately believed in called Greg home softly with love to be in His arms on Wednesday, May 6, 2026
Greg leaves behind his much beloved wife of 27 years Wanda Stakutis.
He was the loving father of three children, Whitney Murphy, Caitlin Valiton and Gregory Valiton, jr. He has two grandaughters, Meadow and River Murphy.
In addition he leaves three siblings, Jeffrey Valiton, Dorothy Spadola and Susan Belida, aunt Sarah Roys and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Mary Roys Valiton, father Earl Valiton and sister Dawn Tuminowski.
Greg was born in Angola, Indiana and as a baby moved to Leverett, Massachusetts. He spent junior high school in Farmington, New Hampshire and high school in North Reading, Class of 1971. It was in high school where he developed a love for football and played all four years for the school as well as being on both the indoor and outdoor track teams. The love he had for football lasted his entire life and he tried to never miss a Patriots game on tv. He loved the game of golf and played as much as time allowed.
He graduated from Lowell Technological Institute (now UMASS Lowell) in 1975 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was highly respected in his field and held Civil Engineering licences in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. After several years in the private sector as an Engineer he went on to three years as Town Engineer for the town of Sturbridge. The last eleven year of his career he was Chief Engineer for Andrews Survey and Engineering in Uxbridge.
Greg an his wife travelled extensively in the Caribbean and Central America including numerous trips on Windjammer Tall Ships. He had a dream of retiring in Belize with a goal of living on the sea and being able to have the time to give back and that was realized in 2007 when he was 53. For the last 19 years Greg became very involved in the communities of Placencia and Seine Bight.
He was in Rotary for ten years, serving a year as President of the club and several years on the Board of Directors and five years on the scholarship committee. He served as Secretary of the Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years and was extremely active in a support role for the department. He loved the youth of Seine Bight and helped start the Seine Bight Running Club in 2015, getting up every Saturday at 5:00 in the morning to be out there for 6:00 to train the youth. Over the years he was involved in many other community service projects as well.
Greg was funny, smart, giving and loving. He never put himself first; his wife, family and friends came first. He never asked for anything for himself. He was loved and respected by his family and friends both in the US and in Belize. He will be deeply missed by all.
Greg was extremely spiritual and closed out every day reflecting looking out at his beautiful Caribbean Sea finding peace and giving thanks to his Lord.
His ashes will be brought back to Belize by his son in June.
If you wish to do anything in remembrance of Greg what he would have loved most is to give a bit of yourself to others and remember to tell people you love them.
