Richard “Truman” Moos, 83 of Centerville, MA, passed away peacefully on May 2 after a long illness. Mr. Moos is survived by his wife Cheryl Moos; his sister Karen Mix; his stepsisters Ruthie Flowers and Mary Burget; his two sons, Todd and Richard; daughters-in-law, Kim and Shawna; four grandchildren Meghan, Bailey, Violet, and Olivia; and two great grandchildren, Esme and Elena.
Richard was born in Oregon where he started his family and an accomplished career in radio broadcasting. The nickname Truman came from his radio DJ handle. His sons remember driving around town when they were little and seeing their dad up on billboards and getting excited when they heard him come on the radio in between songs. He took them to concerts and they had a lot of fun going into the audio booth with him.
Cheryl and Truman moved to South Carolina in 1990s, and in 1996 came to Boston to be close to their son Rich. In 1997, Todd joined them with Kim and young Meghan. Truman started a tradition of reading with Meghan that he continued with all his grandchildren when they were small. Richard and Cheryl put down strong roots on Cape Cod, and he loved feeding a diversity of birds in their backyard. On the day he passed, his family was moved that Richard’s beloved orioles returned to their backyard oasis.
Despite spending three decades on the East Coast, Richard never stopped being a fan of the University of Oregon Ducks football and basketball teams and enjoyed following them with his friends on the West Coast.
He was grateful he had the opportunity to live out his life on Cape Cod surrounded by family, great neighbors, and his friends from the Osterville Baptist Church. A remembrance service will take place at Osterville Baptist Church on May 17 at 3 PM.
