Obituary

Barbara Ann Innes
Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother

Mrs. Barbara Ann (Emmons) Innes, a lifelong resident of Andover and beloved wife of the late Robert Bruce Innes, passed away at Andover Manor on Thursday, May 7, 2026. She was 90 years old.

Barbara was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on March 31, 1936. She was the beloved daughter of the late Josephine (Kuhn) Kryda and granddaughter of Gigi - Thelma (Russell) Mueller Smith.

Barbara spent her entire life in the Merrimack Valley Area. In her early years, she grew up in Methuen. She attended Pike School and Rogers Hall. In 1956, she graduated from Endicott College with a degree in Merchandising, where she also enjoyed photography and playing field hockey. During this time, she met her future husband, Bobby (Robert Innes), at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Mom and Dad attended many formal dates and school dances together in the 1950’s and fell in love. They married on August 10, 1958.

During the early years of their marriage, mom worked in merchandising in Pittsburgh to support dad completing his engineering degree and ROTC at Carnegie Melon University.

During his US Army tour in Germany in the early 1960’s, Mom loved taking good care of her 3 young boys, Robert Jr, Kevin and Duane at Gigi’s home in Salem, NH. During this time, she was able to visit our dad in Europe when he was on leave. She always talked about the wonderful time they had in Paris, France and Germany together. After Dad returned home from the Army, he got a job at Western Electric in North Andover. Then Mom and Dad built a home in Andover in 1965 where they raised their 3 sons. Mom was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She took care of her family and kept the house operations moving forward each day including cooking, laundry, cleaning our home, and food shopping. She always made sure we had our school supplies, clean clothes, and hot meals for dinner. She drove us to piano lessons, swim team practices, after-school activities, school music concerts, track practices, and the Memorial Hall library for reading and school projects. Mom loved to play the piano and took lessons with her three sons. She took pride in our piano recitals for many years. In the summertime she made many picnic lunches for those long drives up the Atlantic coast, where her family enjoyed canoeing and swimming in the Ocean and state parks in New Hampshire.

After Dad’s retirement in 1996, Mom and Dad enjoyed their retirement years with their family. They took many drives through New England and across the country. They visited many places in between including Duane’s family in Washington State.

Mom was an active member of the Andover community. She was also an avid photographer and always available to share her talents. She volunteered at local elementary schools sharing history lessons. Every Memorial Day for many years, Mom enjoyed and took pride in photographing Veterans during parades and events at the park and sharing those pictures with the town and local Veterans.

In 2023, Mom and Dad celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage. By 2024, Mom lost the love of her life, our dad, to Parkinson’s disease. Although that was a difficult time for her, she continued to love her children unconditionally.

Mom was a very devoted loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a shining example of unconditional love following the example of Jesus. She will be dearly missed.

Mom went to be with God on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bobby (Robert Innes), her grandmother Gigi (Thelma (Russell) Mueller Smith), her mother Josephine (Kuhn) Kryda, and her brothers and sisters. Mom is survived by her three sons - Robert Jr, Kevin and Duane, daughter-in-law Carmen, two grandchildren Kristin (Bonnie) and James (Arielle), her great-granddaughter Aspen and her great-grandson Logan.

We would like to thank all the staff at Andover Manor for their love, care, and support of our dear Mother. Your love and kindness in taking care of Mom is very much appreciated.

Mom’s graveside service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 Spring Grove Road, Andover on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11 AM. Reception to follow. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
