Obituary

Kenneth L. Hobbs, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 8:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at Evergreen Cemetery. Travis Hobbs, Jason Hobbs, and Ron Ellington will deliver eulogies.

Mr. Hobbs was born March 3, 1919, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to the late Charlie Washington and Aloto Yingling Hobbs. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a member of the 517 Combat Team and later volunteering for the Paratroopers, Battery C 466. He was awarded 4 Bronze Stars for service during campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rome-Arno. Mr. Hobbs was a former resident of Texas City, Texas and had lived in Fitzgerald since 1947. After arriving, Mr. Hobbs opened Ken Hobbs Signs and was owner-operator of that establishment until his retirement in the mid 90s. Mr. Hobbs perfected his trade by supervising sign shops at military installations where he was stationed. He was of the Christian faith and a member of American Legion Post 99.

Mr. Hobbs is survived by his wife of 62 years: Hazel Ellington Hobbs of Fitzgerald; one son: Travis Hobbs of Norcross; and three grandchildren: Jason Hobbs of Fitzgerald, and Amanda Hobbs and Megan Hobbs, both of McDonough.
