Jacob M. Harper, 84, of Wray, died Sunday, September 17, 2006, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Douglas, with Ray Way officiating.
Mr. Harper was born April 7, 1922, in Wray, to the late Alonzo and Eunice Eastman Harper. He lived the greater part of his life in the Wray community. Mr. Harper began working with his father at a turpentine still and pulpwooding. He worked as a delivery person and maintenance technician for an L.P. gas company, was a carpenter, and worked in maintenance at Dorminy Medical Center. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Douglas but served many other Kingdom Hall congregations in Georgia: Fitzgerald, Tifton, Waycross, Baxley, and Hazlehurst and in Florida: Gainesville and Lake City.
He is survived by his wife: Nell Harper of Wray; two daughters and a son-in-law: Melanie and James Adams of Baxley and Monica Sue Gibbs of Fitzgerald; three sons and a daughter-in-law: Kenneth Harper of Wray, Thomas and Katherine Harper of Ray City, and Andrew Harper of Waycross; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Russell Harper of Fitzgerald and Linell Harper of Dallas; and one sister: Miriam Sherrett of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
