Obituary

Monica Nancy Sharpe, 83, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Derry, NH, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 21,1943, in Lawrence, MA and was a daughter of the late Laurence and Mary (Devine) Becotte. She was raised and educated in Lawrence, where she attended St. Patrick’s Grammar and High School. Monica did her undergraduate degree from UMass Lowell. She received four master’s degrees in Special Education and Learning & Reading Disabilities. Monica taught in the Lawrence School System for a short time prior to her marriage to Clifford Sharpe in February 1965.

In the mid-1970s, while balancing the responsibilities of a wife and mother of three, Monica began her career as a Special Education teacher in Derry, where she continued to teach until her retirement in the early 2000s. She touched the lives of many students over the years with her caring approach to teaching. While her three sons were members of Boy Scout Troop 405 of East Derry, NH, she was very involved behind the scenes as part of the Troop Committee. She was very proud to see all three boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout. More personally, Monica loved reading (often going through two or three books per week), playing Mahjong with her dear friends, and travelling to many far-away and fun-filled destinations with her husband, sons, and their families. Whether traveling with them or just visiting, her main focus and the love of her life was her family. She simply loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, as well as meeting her brother for breakfast or lunch, and just chatting on the phone to hear the latest news from everyone.

Monica leaves her loving husband of 61 years, Clifford Sharpe of Londonderry, her three sons and their wives, Eric (Kristin) Sharpe, Brian (Leissa) Sharpe, and Stephen (Catherine) Sharpe, eight grandchildren, Ruslan, Natasha, Aidan, Charlie, Chloe, Meghan, Alison, and Hamilton, plus her dear brother, Thomas Becotte of Methuen, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Monica was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Becotte and Claire (Becotte) Wegehenkel.

After cremation, a visitation will be held Monday, May 11th from 4 to 6pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The COPD Foundation, https://www.copdfoundation.org/
