Obituary

John Darren McCarthy, a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by his family, at the age of 55. A lifelong resident of Tewksbury, he was a proud Irish man whose strength, humor, and love for his family defined his life.

John was the devoted father of Krysta McCarthy, John McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Brooke McCarthy, and Nicole McCarthy. He was a cherished grandfather to Kianna Figueroa and a loving presence in the life of Anthony Figueroa, Krysta’s significant other. He shared a meaningful and enduring bond with Brenda Bousquet, the mother of his children.

He was the beloved son of Jacqueline McCarthy and Paul McCarthy and was raised alongside his siblings Paul McCarthy; Lisa DeGregory and her husband, Richard; and Robert McCarthy and his wife, Megan. He was also a loving brother to Lori Wrightman and her husband, Chris, and to Michael McCarthy. He was a proud uncle to Katelyn McCarthy; Mikey McCarthy; and Ellie Wrightman. He shared a special connection with Daniel Silva, his mother’s lifelong partner.

Known affectionately as “Mac Attack” and “Nose Hair,” John was truly one of a kind. He was the life of every gathering—funny, playful, and always ready to dance or sing. He loved music, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd and Aerosmith. His favorite song, “Simple Man,” reflected the way he lived his life, and he often dedicated “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” to his children, a reflection of how deeply he loved them.

John was tough as nails, yet incredibly gentle at heart—humble, caring, and selfless. A protector, a provider, and a loyal friend, he always put others before himself. As the youngest of his siblings, he carried a strength and resilience that reminded many of his father.

He was the heart and soul of his family, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled. Though he will be missed beyond measure, his loved ones find comfort in knowing he is now at peace.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Services will be held privately.
