John F. “Jack” Murphy, 80 years of Centerville, formerly of Brockton, died Saturday September 16, 2006, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Brockton, son of the late John F. and Mary E. (Friar) Murphy, he was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1944, and a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business School and Bentley School of Accounting. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of WWII who served in the US Navy. He retired from Traveler’s Insurance Company in 1989 after 30 years as a Field Audit Manager. He was Past President of the Massachusetts Professional Auditor’s Association and Treasurer of St. Edward’s St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was a past member of D.W. Field Golf Course and Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife and best friend for 54 years, M. Lois (Leach) Murphy, four sons John F. Murphy and his wife Colleen of South Easton, Paul E. Murphy and his wife Linda of East Bridgewater, Attorney Gerald T. Murphy and his wife Joyce of South Weymouth and James J. Murphy and his wife Sarah of Wrentham, ten grandchildren Shannon, Kristen, Katie, Emily, Gerald, Michael, Katherine, James, Paige and Brenna Murphy, one brother Walter E. Murphy of West Falmouth, Grace Nelson of Whitman and Mary A. Murphy of Brockton, and many nieces and nephews.
