Obituary

Madeline L. (Cleveland), a 60 year resident of West Newton Hill, died at her home after a long convalescence on Friday, September 15. Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was 86 years old, and the daughter of the late Charles Grover Cleveland and Harriet Victoria Innes of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was the wife of the late Robert Bernard Wilcox of West Newton and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and M.I.T. class of 1948. She was a great grand niece of the late U.S. President Grover Cleveland.
Mrs. Wilcox was an active member of the West Newton Neighborhood Club, Mothers’ Council of Wes Newton, Trinity Episcopal Church of Newton Center, a volunteer at Newton Wellesley Hospital, a member of the Emma Rogers Society at M.I.T., on the Canadian Social Register, a member of the Banook Club, a guest at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and attended Nova Scotia Technical College.
On occasion she hosted dinner parties and pool parties at “Club Mad”. She was generous and had a joie de vivre; she enjoyed playing the piano, poetry, dining out, and traveling extensively with her husband Robert. She will be remembered as an inspiring and loving wife and mother. She leaves her daughter Cheryl L. Wilcox, artist of West Newton, MA, her son Dr. Charles R. Wilcox, psychologist of Beverly, MA., two grandchildren of Beverly, MA., a brother Grover N. Cleveland of Halifax, Nova Scotia and a sister Mrs. Dalton Waller of Toronto, Ontario and Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Homer Street, Newton Center on Wednesday, September 20 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment at Newton Cemetery will be followed by a reception in the Sullivan Room at Trinity Episcopal Church. Arrangements by the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre ST, Newton Corner.
