
Giovanni “John” Conti, 79, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lina L. (Simeone) Conti. They had been married for 55 years.
Born in San Giovanni, Italy, he was the son of the late Erasmo and Giovanna (Abatecola) Conti. John immigrated to the United States and built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
John was the proud owner of Conti’s Bakery in Johnston, where he became well known for his dedication to his craft and the relationships he built with generations of loyal customers. He had also operated his food truck known as Pasta Conti.
Besides his beloved wife, Lina, he leaves his two sons, Giovanni D. “John” Conti and his wife Lisa and Steven J. Conti all of Johnston; his cherished granddaughter, Gia Conti, his pride and joy; and his siblings, Marianna Dimanna of Johnston, Immacolata Grossi of Italy, Rosa Carnevale of Florida, Maria Paris of Johnston, Rita Paris of Johnston, and Carlo Conti of Smithfield.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Natalina Alaia, Salvator Conti, Giuseppe Conti, Constantino Conti, and Vincenzo Conti.
John will be remembered for his love of family, strong work ethic, generosity, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. The Conti family would like to thank Maryanne Warren for giving John 18 more years of life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Robert Bellermine Saturday April 25th at 10:30am. Entombment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation respectfully omitted.
