Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Mark A. Barnes, 65, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Friday, April 17, 2026. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on June 3, 1960 a beloved son of the late Harold and June (Baribeau) Barnes. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from the Roger L. Putnam High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was an Auto Body Painter at the former Houser Buick in Springfield. He enjoyed bowling, playing in dart leagues, collecting sports cards and coins, and watching his New England sports teams. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Laura L. (Hart) Barnes. They were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1981 and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. He also leaves his six loving and devoted children, Fallon L. Barnes and her partner, Tylor, of Springfield, Krystie L. Barnes and her fiancé, Johnathan, of Enfield, CT, Mark A. Barnes II of Springfield, Steffanie L. Barnes of Chicopee, Nicholas A. Barnes and his fiancée, Nicole, of Monson, and Samantha O.M.L. Barnes of Chicopee; his nine cherished grandchildren, Tayah, Madilyn, Sophia, Johnathan, Landen, Ava, Alliana, Marilani, and Grayson; his cherished great grandson, Jasper; his three dear brothers, Gordon W. Barnes of Feeding Hills, Harold W. B. Barnes, Jr. of San Lorenzo, CA, and Wayne B. Barnes and his wife, Tamara, of Chicopee; his dear brother-in-law, Phillip Servantez of Stafford, CT; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved baby son, Justin Michael Barnes; his beloved baby grandson, Noah Anthony Barnes who was Called Home on January 21, 2023; his dear brother, Richard H. Barnes who was Called Home on March 13, 1997; and his dear sister, Anita M. Servantez who was Called Home on October 12, 2025. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, 413-737-1177, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129.
