Domenic Anthony DeFelix, Champion and Hero of the Underserved in Brockton, 64
It is with heavy hearts that we share Domenic Anthony DeFelix, 64 years, recently passed away unexpectedly after complications from Type 1 Diabetes at his residence in Brockton, MA. Domenic Anthony was born in Boston on August 2, 1961, was a lifelong resident of Brockton, and was the son of the late Elizabeth A. DeFelix and the late Richard A. DeFelix. He is survived by son Domenic Sergio, sister Mary DeFelix of Brockton, brother Richard DeFelice of Cape Cod, brother Patrick DeFelix of Boston, stepbrother William Greene of Shrewsbury, stepmother Anne Shay of Orange City, FL, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews. Domenic will be lovingly and dearly missed by all family, extended family, friends, and neighbors.
Domenic was a Champion and Hero of the Underserved in Brockton for decades. Domenic generously volunteered his time and energy and performed a staggering amount of work for many Brockton area churches and community service and nonprofit organizations over many years, on behalf of those who were in poverty, food insecure, low-income, and needed a hot meal or some clothing… or a bed. He was a familiar face at the Trinity Church in Brockton, My Brother’s Keeper in Easton, Father Bill’s, downtown Brockton soup kitchens, among others. Domenic prioritized working hard to help those who were struggling, made a positive difference in their lives, and gave back to his community in dedicated service. Domenic “Served the Underserved”!
Domenic Anthony DeFelix was a Catholic Christian who served God by serving people of all faiths and cultures in the multicultural Brockton community. He glorified God by his life of service to others. Domenic learned and formed his faith at St. Patrick’s Church on Main Street in Brockton in CCD classes growing up, an Alter Boy there, then later received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Patrick’s in high school. He returned to “St. Pat’s” many years later, attending meetings of the Church’s “2nd Community” Catechesis group with brother Richard, who was “Walking” in his faith journey together with the Community at St. Patrick’s and was a co-leader of one of the groups there. Domenic’s life of service to others was inspired and informed by his Catholic Christian faith.
Domenic Anthony “Tony” DeFelix was a 1979 graduate of Brockton High School where as a senior, he won the Industrial Arts Department Achievement Award, was an enthusiastic member of the Aviation and Science Fiction Clubs, and played on the Tennis Team. Domenic later studied at the ITT Technical Institute in Boston. He became a self-employed entrepreneur, owning his own business as a Home Improvement and Renovation Contractor for many years. He also worked at Brockton Industrial Electric, South Shore Generator, and Honeywell-Bull in Boston.
Many people love dogs, but Domenic not only loved canines, but had a unique talent and passion for dogs and raised and cared for many dogs during his life, starting as a 16-year old teenager. Domenic was the “Original Dog Whisperer”!
Domenic was a very proud American and was a very patriotic man. He had a strong sense of duty to country, to family, and to his local Brockton multicultural community. He was also very proud of his Italian heritage. Even from a young age, Domenic had a grounded sense of self, of who he was and he never lost sight of himself, through all of life’s ups and downs. Diagnosed as a young child with Type 1 Diabetes, he never complained about it and never let it define him. Domenic was “Old School”, valued tradition, and liked most the things in life that were natural, genuine, and uncomplicated.
Domenic lived life fully, with hard work, dedication to serving the needy, humor and a sense of fun, and his was a life very well-lived.
