Obituary

Judith B. Kaplan, a resident of Medford, Massachusetts, died at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham on Wednesday, April 15, 2025. She was 76 years old.

Born in Philadelphia and raised on a chicken farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of the late Martin N. Kaplan and Doris (Chasman) Kaplan. Judith was a graduate of Brandeis University and earned her master’s degree in psychology from Yale University. She was employed as a scientific editor for the United States government for 29 years, primarily in the fields of public health, health policy, and medicine. She co-edited a published, historical volume, “Red Diaper Babies: Growing Up in the Communist Left.”

Judith was a lifelong activist and an engaged member of her community. She was an active member of the World Fellowship Center in Albany, New Hampshire, and a co-facilitator for 20 years for the Boston branch of ThyCa, the national thyroid cancer support group. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening around her home, talking and visiting with her family and many friends, and enjoyed practicing many forms of art. She also loved tracing her ancestry and family genealogy. Judith will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her loving sister, Ruth P. Kaplan-Kramer of Media, Pennsylvania; nephew, Joshua Kramer and his wife Allison Bailey of Washington, DC; uncle, Murray Kaplan and his wife Edith of Cherry Hill, New Jersey and cousin Kenneth Kaplan of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Her funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Donations in Judith's memory may be made to Rosenberg Fund for Children, ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, Inc., or World Fellowship Center.
