Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Shirley B. (LaBounty) Berard, 97, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, April 12, 2026. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving daughter, Angela. She was born in Troy, Vermont on July 7, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Ellis and Bernadette (Robitaille) LaBounty. She was raised and educated in Troy, Vermont and moved to Springfield in 1951. She attended Springfield Technical Community College and lived in the city for most of her life. She was an Office Manager for Baystate Medical Center and an Accounts Representative for Mercy Medical Center, both in Springfield and retired in 1991.She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She enjoyed playing bingo, solving jigsaw puzzles, reading books, playing cards, creative coloring, and tending to her beautiful flower garden. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her former first husband, Levi J. St. Onge, and her second husband, Roland C. Berard. She leaves her children, Angela M. Ferrando of Springfield and John L. St. Onge and his wife, Kristine, of Belchertown; her daughter-in-law, Virginia St. Onge of Westfield; her five grandchildren, Philip St. Onge, Bethany D. Flanagan, Douglas St. Onge and his wife, Cheryl, Sharon St. Onge and her husband, Rich, and Amy Lopez and her husband, Pablo; her 14 great grandchildren, Louis Dombek and his wife, Stephanie, Jeremy Dombek, Erika Dombek, Brandon Huckins, Matthew Rice, Andrew Rice and his wife, Marcie, Nicholas Flanagan and his wife, Soleil, Emily Flanagan, Shelby Marte and her husband, Ken, Megan Tash, Adrianna Carriere and her husband, Dave, Frank Bovat, Shannon Hiltbrand and her husband, Cameron, and Krystal Hiltbrand; her 18 great great grandchildren, Calliope Dombek, Vivienne Dombek, Lilianna Dombek, Isabella Dombek, Ireland Fuller, Adelyn Crosler, Benjamin Marsh, Madelyn Marsh, Logan Huckins, Aubrey Huckins, Skylar Rice, Aubriella Rice, Ellie Flanagan, Declan Carter, Elienora Marte, Tayton Carriere, Silas Carriere, and Saylor Hiltbrand; her sister, Vivian St. George of California; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her son, Levi J. St. Onge, Jr.; her son-in-law, Robert Ferrando, her three granddaughters, Ashley St. Onge, Kristen Nicole Kudej, and Theresa Huckins; and her five siblings, Evelyn, Edwina, Mona, Robert, and Paul. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass.
