Worcester - Irini Lambrini (Bitzas) Athanasopoulos, 88, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
Irini is survived by her loving husband, Stavros E. Athanasopoulos; her two sons, John Athanasopoulos and his wife, Jennifer of Hopedale and Angelos Athanasopoulos of Worcester; two brothers, Kosmos Bitzas of Westfield, MA and George Bitzas of Agawam, MA; her two beloved granddaughters, Zoe Athanasopoulos and Chloe Athanasopoulos and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Athanasopoulos was born in Dolo, Greece, daughter of the late Philip and Alexandra (Kitsou) Bitzas and is also predeceased by a sister, Stafvrula Nastos and two brothers, Anthony and Harry Bitzas.
Irini worked for many years at the former L. Farber Company. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and traveling throughout New England, but nothing brought her more joy than being able to be with her family, especially her two granddaughters, Zoe and Chloe.
Private funeral services are being held with burial taking place in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Marchand Memorial Homes, Alfred Roy & Sons – Henry Funeral Service Memorial Chapel 33 Ward St. Worcester, is honored to be directing funeral arrangements.
