Jose “Luis” Guerrero 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Buzzards Bay , MA on April 8, 2026 after a long illness.
Luis is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joan Elinor (Ross) Guerrero; his two beloved daughters, Aimee McLaughlin and her husband, James M. McLaughlin, and Lisa Jane Halko and her husband, Nicholas W. Halko; and his cherished grandsons, Connor J. McLaughlin and Oliver L. Halko. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Hector E. Guerrero, Darlene L. Hutchinson, and J. Rene Guerrero, along with several other extended family members and dear family friend, Suzanne Sullivan.
He was predeceased by his parents, Evangelina Llerena Morales and Luis Nino Guerrero, and his two older brothers, Rene Guerrero and J. Ernesto Guerrero.
In 1966, Luis embarked on a courageous journey from Cuba to the United States in pursuit of freedom. On July 4, 1976, he proudly became a United States citizen at the Old North Church in Boston, MA an achievement that meant a great deal to him.
Luis dedicated 55 years to an accomplished career in cardiovascular research at Massachusetts General Hospital. Throughout his career, he contributed to numerous scientific and technical advancements, was published in multiple medical journals, and collaborated with respected medical professionals from around the world.
Before his illness, Luis enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. He loved spending time with family in Miami, playing golf and tennis, skiing, and traveling with his wife Joan and their close-knit group of friends. He cherished his daughters and treasured time spent with his family.
Luis will be remembered for his kindness, his warm smile, and his wonderful sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.
Services and burial will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
