Jose A. Cabrita Rato of Woburn formerly of Somerville passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was 80 years old. Jose was the beloved husband of the late Maria H. (Esteves) Cabrita. Born in Alentejo, Portugal, he was the cherished son of the late Jose and Adilia (Cabrita) Rato.
Prior to his retirement, Jose was employed as a lab technician in the pharmaceutical industry. Jose was an avid sports fan, especially of the Sporting soccer team of Portugal. In addition, Jose enjoyed spending time on the Cape and fishing at the Cape Cod Canal.
Jose was the devoted father of Jorge DaSilva and his wife Carla of Framingham and Patricia Giangrande and her husband Frank of Woburn. He was the adored “Avo” to Sofia, Christian, Daniel, Ali and David. Jose was the dear brother of Carlos, Celestino, Louis, Antonio and Vitor Cabrita, all of Portugal.
Visiting hours will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, MA, on Friday, April 10th, from 9-11AM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home beginning 11AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be private.
