Elena Rose Hopkins, age 87, of North Billerica formerly of Malden and Charlestown passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 2, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late William T. Hopkins, Jr. Born in Boston, May 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Silvio and Tina (Romasco) Cocco.
Elena or "Ellie" as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was raised and educated in Charlestown and was a 1956 graduate of Charlestown High School where she excelled as a student athlete and was a member of the Girl's Basketball team.
Ellie worked for many years as an operator and later as an Administrative Assistant with the phone company. In 1958 she married the love of her life, William T. Hopkins, and the young couple settled in Malden where they would raise their two children. Always active and involved in her children's activities and schooling, Ellie served as the President of the Malden Catholic Lancer Club in the 1980's. In 2004 she moved to Billerica to live with her son and his family which brought her great joy.
Over the years Ellie enjoyed crocheting and making blankets, she was a tremendous cook, especially her homemade sauce, but more importantly she cherished sharing her creations and feeding everyone she knew and loved. Ellie will fondly be remembered for independent strength, her love of traveling with friends and especially her love for socializing and caring for others, putting their needs before her own. She will be greatly missed.
Ellie is survived by her son William T. Hopkins III and his wife Susan of North Billerica. She was the loving grandmother of William T. Hopkins IV and his partner Kaitlyn Brady and their daughter Remi Hopkins, Kylie Hopkins, and Daniel Hopkins. Sister of William F. Cocco, the late Theresa Sicarello, and Robert Cocco.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Wednesday, April 8th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed with a prayer service beginning at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
