Ruth Oakes, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of the late Francis Oakes Sr. and the longtime companion of the late Leo Doire.
She lived in Rhode Island her entire life and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Graichen. She most recently resided in Johnston and had previously lived in Providence and Burrillville.
She worked as a store manager for Ames for 15 years before retiring. She was a longtime member of the Warwick Elks Lodge, where she served as an officer, and was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for her fun-loving spirit and sharp sense of humor.
She is survived by her sister, Joan Graichen; her children: Charles Oakes of Virginia Beach, VA; Sheri Cicatiello of Cranston; Frank Oakes of Brookfield, CT; and Liz Doire of Wareham, MA; and her children-in-law: Divina Oakes, Maureen Oakes, and Steve Doire.
Ruth is further survived by her grandchildren: Francis Oakes, Divina Oakes, Geoff Cicatiello, Matthew Cicatiello, Lyndsey Joseph, Christopher Doire, Sarah Doire, Gregory Oakes, and Diana Cockrill; a grandson in love, Jake Joseph; and her great-grandchildren: Winnry Oakes, Graham Oakes, Evie Oakes, and Leo Joseph.
A celebration of life with be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 11am-1pm with a funeral service at 1pm. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, North Smithfield.
