Obituary

Carol A. (Murray) Marchand, 87, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in her lifelong home, with her family by her side.

In 1959, Carol married her childhood sweetheart, Robert N. Marchand Sr., and remained married for 41 years until his passing in 2001. She is survived by her five children: Donna M. Duquette and her husband, Paul, of Worcester; Carole A. Amidon and her husband, Keith, of Worcester; Ann M. Robichaud and her husband, Denis, of Worcester; Robert N. Marchand Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Holden; and Michael F. Marchand and his wife, Heidi, of Holden. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Elizabeth Caron, Jessica Monfreda, Christopher Duquette, Michael Amidon, Rev. Jonathan Amidon, Renee Lace, Ryan Robichaud, Robert Marchand, Delia Marchand, Claire Marchand, Wyatt Marchand, and Garrett Marchand; nine great-grandchildren: Isabella Caron; Jordyn and Jackson Monfreda; Declan Duquette; Theodore, Genevieve, and Margot Lace; and Greyson and Camden Marchand as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Marchand was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Roy and Myrtle (Elliott) Murray. She was also predeceased by her sister, Shirley Sauriol, and her grandson, Tyler Robichaud.
Carol graduated from South High School in 1957 and held various jobs. Ultimately, she became a stay-at-home mother, where raising her five children was her top priority. Later in life, she always had a smile on her face when her grandchildren were brought to her home to be cared for by their “Gram.”

Her Catholic faith was central to her daily life, and she was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Peter’s Church, where she volunteered in numerous capacities, including Couple to Couple Marriage Preparation, a youth advisor for the CYC Program, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and working at—and chairing—the annual bazaar for many years.

Carol cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, and she was a dedicated Boston sports fan. She especially enjoyed playing tennis when she was younger and always looked forward to watching the major tennis tournaments.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 7, from the Marchand Memorial Homes, Alfred Roy & Sons – Henry Funeral Service Memorial Chapel, 33 Ward Street, Worcester, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her grandson, Rev. Jonathan Amidon, at 10:30 AM in Saint Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester. Entombment alongside her husband will take place immediately after the Mass in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 6, from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
