Few can say they meet someone whose personality still shines and impacts without a single word exchanged. Darryn L. Puryear, former Marine, loving brother, and dependable son was that person and sadly left us on March 29, 2026. While Darryn resided in Malden for his last few years with us, he formerly lived in Medford. At 59 years young Darryn is cherished by his mother Dorothy Puryear, and the late Jeffrey Puryear. Survived by Jeffery Jr. and his Irish twin Monique Puryear, he was the cherished uncle to Elijah, Jeffrey Jr. the third, Nycia and Nirvana.
Darryn was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and served in both the Operation Desert
Shield/Storm Campaigns in 1991. He was an avid car and hot rod enthusiast (and that never changed). Darryn’s love to drag race and suit up his hot rods carried on even when his body no longer allowed him to partake. He was the perfect party partner whether it be a friend’s house or a function at the roller rink. His health was top priority and kept him looking top notch, no fine tuning needed. You’d often find Darryn lifting weights and always working out.
While Darryn’s body succumbed after his motorcycle accident his spirit never did. Surviving 35 years he found new ways to live and enjoy his prior hobbies. He still played games, posed for pics, sneaked peeks at good looking chicks and of course, never missed a nice car. If there’s anything we can learn from Darryn it’s that what life looks like can change in an instant, that doesn’t mean who you are at your core has to, and it surely didn’t for Darryn. He will be dearly, missed.
