STANDISH- Kenneth (Kenny) Day, 69, died suddenly March 29,2026 at his home in Standish, Maine. He was born March 15, 1957, in Lynwood, CA to Charles and Helen Day. His grandmother, Lula Belle Hartley influenced his life in many ways during his early years in California. She introduced him to music by purchasing his first drum set. At the age of twelve, Kenny, his parents and brother Charles, Jr. moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine to help run the family business, Surf Side Motel and Cabins. There he worked hard, along with his brother, to help maintain the motel and cabins. His father taught him many skills he would later use to foster his career as a controls engineer in the energy management business. Kenny graduated from Old Orchard Beach high school in 1975 where he played football and hockey. After high school, he attended SMVTI trade school. He then began his long career in the energy management industry, at one time owning his own business, Sebago Controls. Kenny retired in 2020 from AAA Energy Services, Scarborough, Maine.
Kenny had many hobbies starting in his younger years with surfing, skiing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, boating, fishing, and riding his Harley. He saved his pay as a youngster to purchase his first dirk bike. From there he advanced to a KTM off-road dirt bike and traveled throughout New England competing in Enduro races, winning many trophies well into his early 50’s. He loved Sebago Lake and sunset cruises on his boat. He was a New England sports fan and enjoyed watching the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox.
Kenny’s passion was music. Country, classic rock and blues. Name the song and he could play and sing it. He enjoyed playing drums, harmonica, guitar, and fiddle. He loved to sing and write his own music. He was a founding member of many bands from his teenage years to the present. Bands in his younger days included Sugar Creek, American Standard, Ruckus, American Pie, Amarillo, and The Knuckleheads. The recent band he enjoyed for years, Lil’ Ken and the Blues Dawgs, truly defined his talents. He absolutely loved having the band guys over to his home for weekly jams and to play for special parties and occasions.
Kenny is predeceased by both parents, and his older brother Charles, Jr. Kenny leaves behind his daughter Jessica Day Brinkley, husband Jamie and grandson Grayson. Son, Jon Day and grandson Finley. Sister-in-law Marlene Day, niece Shauna and nephew Chaz and a grandniece and nephew. Kenny leaves behind his beloved wife Diane Nicholson, stepdaughter Helena Nicholson, granddaughter Trinity, mother-in-law Helen Nicholson and sister-in-law Lorraine Nicholson. There are too many great friends to mention. They all had a special place in his heart. He cherished them all.
Kenny will be sadly missed. He lived his life just as he wanted. Full of love, laughter, adventures and music. Kenny always said, “I am not here for a long time, but a good time!”
A celebration of his life will be held the end of May or early June. An announcement will be sent to family and friends. His wishes were to crank the music, eat, drink and be merry!
