Obituary

John F. Prestigiovanni, Sr., a cherished resident of Medford, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in the West End of Boston, John moved to Medford at the age of 15. He was a proud graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1963, and Merrimack University, Class of 1974.

John was the beloved husband of the late Amelia (DiCarlo) Prestigiovanni. Son to the late Frank and Carmela (Asero) Prestigiovanni and sister to the late D. Jane Prestigiovanni. John is survived by his children John Prestigiovanni, Jr. and his wife Amy of Medford; his daughter Theresa Shano and her husband John of Medford; and his son Anthony Prestigiovanni and his wife Emily of Gloucester. He was the “Papa” and greatest fan of his seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Zachary, and Jillian Prestigiovanni, Jared Shano, and Ellie, Ivy, and Rose Prestigiovanni, all of whom were his absolute pride and joy.

John’s professional career was marked by his dedication to the financial teams of several major companies, including Converse, Monster.com, and Puma. However, he often remarked that no title held more weight or brought him more fulfillment than that of husband, father and Papa.

A man of deep faith and service, John was a pillar of St. James Parish for many years and later a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi/Mary Queen of Peace Parish. He shared his talents generously, serving on the financial council, volunteering at the food pantry, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. John was also a familiar and friendly face at the Medford Senior Center, where he spent several days a week playing bocce, cribbage, and whist, and sharing his voice as a member of the senior chorus.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, April 4th, from 9 AM to 11 AM, with a special prayer service at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s honor to the Medford Senior Center, 101 Riverside Ave, Medford MA 02155. Please make checks payable to MSCI and note “In memory of John Prestigiovanni”.
