
John Mortimer Fisher, Jr. departed this earth on March 25, 2026. John was born in Bronxville, New York and grew up in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania where he was a longtime member of the Merion Cricket Club. John was a graduate of The Haverford School and Cornell University where he was enrolled in ROTC and a member of Alpha Delta Phi. Upon graduation, John proudly served as First Lieutenant in the United States Navy.
After the Navy, John entered the advertising world first with N.W. Ayer in Philadelphia, then with BBDO, Backer Spielvogel Bates and Homer & Durham in New York. After a five-year assignment in Miami, John formed his own marketing consulting firm, Claughton Island Associates, and moved to Redding, Connecticut.
Retirement brought John and his wife, Marianne, to North Hill in Needham, Massachusetts in 2018 where John immediately put his talents to good use. He founded the Current Events Discussion Group and started a Men’s Book Club. In addition, John was Treasurer of the Resident Council, Chair of the Program Committee, and served on the North Hill Reads Committee. An avid oenophile, John was a founding member of a wine tasting club at North Hill.
John was the son of Dorothy Rumpf of Pelham, New York, and John Mortimer Fisher of Long Island, New York. He was the stepson of Charles M. Sheaffer, Jr. and brother to the late Cheyney Sheaffer Hansen and Susan Sheaffer Werner of Wayne, Pennsylvania. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marianne Bernabo Fisher; his sons, John Mortimer (Tim) Fisher III and his wife Monica of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Scott Volpi Fisher and his wife Karen of Hingham, Massachusetts; and three cherished grandchildren, Gavin Russell Vogel, Justin Raymond Fisher and Jordan Francesca Fisher.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wellesley, Massachusetts on March 31st at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place later this spring in Westport, Connecticut. Throughout his life, John generously supported several charities whose missions in which he believed.
