Denise A. (Casavant) Danis, 70, of Westport, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of James Danis, her high school sweetheart with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, and she was his number one co-pilot through life’s journey.
Born in Fall River, she was the beloved daughter of the late George T. and Irene Filatreault Casavant. Denise spent most of her life in Westport, where she built a warm and welcoming home that became the heart of countless family gatherings and celebrations.
Denise had a remarkable gift in the kitchen and was affectionately known by those who loved her as a true culinary genius. Her meals were more than food—they were expressions of love that brought people together. Whether preparing a holiday feast or a simple family dinner, she took pride in every detail, always ensuring no one left her table hungry. Beyond her talents in cooking, Denise was known for her dependability, generosity, and readiness to lend a helping hand. She was the person others turned to in times of need—always prepared, always present, and always caring.
Above all else, Denise treasured her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving daughter, Wendy Rayne and her husband Jim of Westport; her sisters, Louise Casavant of Newport and Dolores Tansey of Dartmouth; her cherished grandchildren, Brandon, James, Connor, and Griffin; and many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
She was the beloved mother of the late Joshua Danis, whom she held close in her heart always.
Her services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at
