Dennis Gary Dowd age 71 passed away on March 20, 2026 at Villa Crest Nursing Home. Dennis was surrounded by his loving family for many days before his passing. He was born on June 16, 1954 in Lawrence, MA, the son of Frances and John Dowd.
Dennis pursued a career in education and library science. Collecting several degrees along the way. Always looking to expand his vision of education. After graduation from Cardinal Cussing High School in Amsbury, MA, he entered Merrimack College and graduated in 1972, then attended Northeastern University Graduating in 1976. He then attended Regis College attaining a Certificate in Legal Studies. He returned to Northeastern to receive his Master of Public Administration. Then working at the Northeastern library for 26 years.
He is survived by his brother, John “Jack” Dowd and his wife Teresa (Tekin) Dowd; his nieces, Laurie and Brian Mullen and their sons Lennon and Phillip, and Melinda and Keven Josephson and there daughters Amber and Ali; also nephews, Matt, Peter, Aaron, Adam and Jason.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 24th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Rd, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, STA Knights of Columbus.
