Obituary

Russell M. Cookson, of Hartford Avenue, Johnston, the former owner of Centredale Specialized Products, an industrial rubber roll company, for 25 years before retiring died Wednesday at Cherry Hill Manor. He was the husband of Florence “Ginger” (Greenhalgh) Cookson.

Born in Needham, MA, he was a son of the late Earl and Bertha (Kirk) Cookson. He was a resident of Johnston for over 45 years.

He served in the Army during WWII as a Tech Sergeant. He was an agent for local artists and was a member of the Glocester Country Club for 28 years.

Besides his wife he is survived by siblings, Bernice Hyman of Nelson, NH, Joyce Whitehead of Wickford, Ernest Cookson of Northport, FL, Royce Cookson of Hendersonville, NC, and Gleason Cookson, of Celebration, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Earl, Quentin, and Albert Cookson, Ethel Gardener, Jean Whitehead and Bertha Maxwell.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30am in Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2663 Hartford Avenue, Johnston. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday 4-8pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Dora C.
