Mrs. Wilmoteen McDonald Branam, 84, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, September 12, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Friday, September 15, 2006, at Arbor Baptist Church, with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and Rev. Howard Kitchens officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9, Thursday evening, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Branam was born August 29, 1922, in Jackson County, to the late John M. and Margie Hartley McDonald. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1925 from Jackson County. Mrs. Branam was a 1939 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, where she was a star basketball and softball player. Mrs. Branam was a former employee of Ben Hill County Hospital, the Monarch Company, Fitzgerald Underwear and worked as a patient representative for 28 years at Dorminy Medical Center. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour at Salem Baptist Church in 1942 and moved her letter to Abba Baptist Church in 1952. She helped establish a church softball league and then played softball for the league until 1984. At her death she was a member of Arbor Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for over fifty years.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years: Edwin J. Branam of Fitzgerald; daughters: Annette Gibbs of Cordele and Bonnie Sproul of Albany; son: Quinton Branam of Albany; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
