Samuel Albert Garland, III, 62, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at his residence.
Graveside memorial services will be held 4 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with family and friends officiating.
Mr. Garland was born June 9, 1963, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Samuel Albert and Eugenia Stone Garland. He was a 1981 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship and played defensive tackle for the Florida Gators. He played offensive tackle in the 1985 SEC Championship Game versus Kentucky. He taught at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College and was a GOAL winner for East Central Technical College. Mr. Garland was a Master Electrician for the past 25 years and owned and operated Honey Doo’s. He was happiest when he was doing good things for other people and spent many years caring for his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Allen Garland of Fitzgerald; three sisters: Catherine Garland & Steve Bravy of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Eugenia Garland “Deni” Dorminy & Don Squires of Durango, Colorado and Eliza Garland Nesmith of West End, North Carolina; two stepchildren: Brant Pickard & Heather of Hahira and Brittney Laudino & Jesse of Summerville, South Carolina; grandchildren: Madeline Grace Pickard and Arabella Grace Laudino; a niece and two nephews: Will Dorminy of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Anna Dorminy White of Kona, Hawaii, and Samuel Garland Bravy of Baltimore, Maryland; an aunt, Nancy Hough & Jack Wilcox of Fitzgerald; and two cousins: Martin Hough of Fitzgerald and Justin Hough & Cheryl of Statesville, North Carolina.
